About Canterbury Christ Church University
Overview
- Founded as a Church of England college for teacher training in 1962 it was granted university status in 2005.
- As well as being Kent's largest centre of higher education for the public services – notably teacher training, health and social care and the emergency services – the university also offers academic and professional programmes, including doctorates and research degrees in the arts, humanities and social and applied sciences.
- Canterbury Christ Church University is a member of the Cathedrals Group (officially the Council of Church Universities and Colleges or CCUC).
- The University is about 15 minutes away from London by bus. The universities close to the university includes University of Kent and University of Rochester.

- The University has ambitious and exciting plans for the future with a £150 million campus development, which includes a new centre for engineering and technology and a stunning, new arts building which opened in January 2019.
- Further investment in STEM includes the creation of Kent and Medway’s first-ever medical school in partnership with the University of Kent which launches in 2020.
- Christ Church is in the top 20 in the UK for qualified teaching staff with 79% of academic staff holding teaching qualifications in addition to their academic and professional qualifications.
- The university was awarded silver in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework.
