Overview
• Abertay University is one of two public universities in the city of Dundee, Scotland.
• In 1872 Sir David Baxter 1st Baronet of Kilmaron left a bequest for the establishment of a mechanics institute in Dundee and the Dundee Institute of Technology was formed in 1888.
• Abertay gained University status in 1994.
• Dundee is Scotland’s fourth largest city.
• It is about an hour’s travel from Edinburgh and about 7 hours by train from London.
• The other universities in the region include University of Dundee.
• The University’s campus is located in the center of the city with all of its buildings places just a quarter mile from each other.

- Abertay launched the world’s first computer games degree in 1997.
• Abertay was also the first to offer a degree in Ethical Hacking started in 2006.
• Ranked Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework.
• Abertay University is now ranked 87th in The Guardian University Guide for 2020.
• The University’s civil engineering course was ranked 6th the best in Scotland and is the only Scottish course to offer a guaranteed work placement for every student.
• Abertay has been ranked number one in Europe for undergraduate videogames education by the Princeton Review in five consecutive years from 2015 to 2019.
• Abertay was the UK’s first University to be recognised as a Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education. Psychology courses ranked top modern in Scotland and 30th in the UK from more than 100 on the Guardian Table. Abertay’s sports science degrees were rated in the top half of UK courses at 30th, while accounting and finance courses achieved the same ranking.
• A total of 89.3% of students at Abertay were satisfied with the quality of teaching offered within their course – the best result for a Scottish modern university.
