• It was shortlisted for the ‘THE Leadership and Management Awards’ 2017 for its outstanding career-focused approach.
• The university’s strong partnerships with global companies like IBM, Rolls-Royce, HSBC and BBC serve students a great deal, helping them connect with potential employers.
• The University of Wales, Newport received the 2013 Guardian Higher Education Award (with the University of Glamorgan) for widening participation through its Universities Heads of the Valleys Institute (UHOVI) initiative.
• The University of Glamorgan was recognised for providing outstanding student support, winning the 2012 Times Higher Award for Outstanding Support to Students.

• In the 2019/20 international university rankings, Southampton ranked 97th (QS World University Rankings), 122nd (Times Higher Education World University Rankings), 114th (CWTS Leiden Ranking)and 101–150 (Academic Ranking of World Universities). In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the university was ranked 18th in the United Kingdom for average quality of research submitted, 11th for research power and 8th for research intensity.
• The university is a pert of the Russell group of International universities. In 2019 it ranked 205th among the universities around the world by SCImago Institutions Rankings.
• Its business school is AMBA and AACSB acredited. The University of Southampton is cited as being the UK’s leading university for engineering.
• The Guardian ranked the university at number 1 in the UK for Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electronic and Electrical Engineering in June 2010.
