• The University of Glasgow is a public research university in Glasgow, Scotland.

• Founded in 1451 it is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland’s four ancient universities.

• Along with the universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and St Andrews.

• It is a member of Universitas 21, the Russell Group and the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities.

• The university is home to nearly 28,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from over 140 countries world-wide with 600 programmes.

• Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland. It is about an hour’s travel from Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland and about 5 hours by train from London.

• The other universities in the region include University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian University and University of the West of Scotland. The university has 3 main campuses.

• The University of Glasgow ranked 60th and 67th globally in the 2019 CWTS Leiden and 2020 QS World University Ranking respectively and came nationally among the top 10 universities in the UK.

• Due to the high educational standards, the strict entrance requirements in the “Universities and Colleges Admissions Service” (rank 6 in the UK) as well as the reputation in the research world, the university receives numerous applications from students from all over the world every year.

• As the University of Glasgow belongs to the top 1% in the world it is part of a small group of leading international universities (World Top 100).

• According to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, 81% of the research achievements were rated as “internationally excellent” and achieved the 10th position on research volume in the United Kingdom.

• The university generates a total income of over £450 million per year- amongst the top 10 in the UK.

• The University is a member of the Russell Group of research-led British universities and was a founding member of the organisation, Universitas 21 an international grouping of universities dedicated to setting worldwide standards for higher education.

• The university currently has fifteen Regius Professorships, nearly twice the number held by the next nearest, Oxford. 95.9% of graduates either being in employment or further study a year after leaving the University of Glasgow.

• It is ranked in the top 10 in the UK for Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical Engineering and Psychology According to the Times world ranking of universities 2020 the university is ranked 99th in the world.

• It is ranked 86th in the world for Arts and Humanities, 41st for Law, and 76th for Biological Sciences.

• It is ranked 18th in the European Teaching Rankings 2019.

• The QS world ranking of universities 2020 ranks Glasgow 67th in the world.
